AASU, Flagler Finish Crossover Unbeaten

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The top two teams in the Peach Belt volleyball standings, Flagler and host Armstrong Atlantic, each won twice to finish the 2009 PBC/Conference Carolinas Crossover with perfect 3-0 marks after the final day of play in Savannah.
The Pirates notched 3-0 victories over St. Andrews and King (Tenn.) on Saturday, while Flagler picked up a 3-0 win over King and a 3-1 win over Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer made sure that Conference Carolinas would not be shut out on the weekend with a 3-1 win over Augusta State, while the Jaguars finished the weekend 2-1 after a 3-0 win over St. Andrews.
Armstrong Atlantic (19-7) hit a stellar .322 in a 25-17, 25-14, 25-12 win over St. Andrews (9-17) that began the day's action. Senior Michele Remlinger hit .765 - the fifth-highest single-match hitting percentage in AASU history - with 14 kills and just one error in 17 attacks in the victory for the Pirates. Freshman Kristin Standhardinger added 33 assists and sophomore Casey Howett notched a match-high 12 digs as well for AASU.
St. Andrews was led by six kills apiece for Heather Bolwerk and Galina Podolsky; 14 assists for Kelly Stine and 10 digs for Erica Davis.
In the Pirates' final match of the Crossover, AASU benefitted from the service game in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-15 win over King (Tenn.) (21-7). The Pirates collected eight service aces, including five from Torrie Bevolo - four in succession in one stretch in the second set - and saw the Tornado commit eight service errors in the match.
Junior Brendyce Budd led the way offensively by hitting .474 with a match-high 11 kills. Kristin Standhardinger tallied 32 assists and Bevolo finished the match with a match-high 15 digs to go with her five aces.
King (Tenn.) was led by Morgan Machen's six kills, Katie Fleming's 14 assists and Rachel Harding's 11 digs.
Flagler (21-8) started off its pair of wins with a 25-14, 25-9, 25-13 demolishing of King. The Saints hit .508 with only four attack errors in the match and also benefitted from the service game, tallying 13 service aces. Meg Weathersby led the way for Flagler with 11 kills, while Olivia Snipes tallied 17 assists and Justine Burkhardt collected 10 digs.
King (Tenn.) had seven kills from Kaitlyn Musick and 19 assists from Katie Fleming in the match.
The Saints then were taken to four sets by Conference Carolinas-leading Pfeiffer (17-8) but prevailed, 25-11, 25-13, 29-27, 25-14. Katie Beale led the way with 17 kills and 14 digs for Flagler, while Meg Weathersby added 16 kills, 13 digs and four blocks and Justine Burkhardt notched 11 kills and 16 digs.
Pfeiffer was led by Brittany Dickens' nine kills and Vanessa Gerig's 24 assists and 16 digs.
The Falcons picked up a win earlier in the day with a 26-24, 16-25, 25-21, 25-22 win over Augusta State (19-10) to finish the tournament with a 1-2 mark. Augusta State wrapped up the Crossover action with a 25-19, 25-22, 28-26 win over St. Andrews, finishing the weekend 2-1.
Armstrong Atlantic returns to action on Tuesday, October 27, with a 6:00 p.m. road matchup at West Georgia.
