Pirates Earn All-PBC Volleyball Honors

AIKEN, S.C. - Four Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball players were honored on Saturday morning at the annual PBC Volleyball awards banquet, prior to semifinal action at the 2009 PBC Volleyball Championships. Freshman middle hitter Kathrin Standhardinger was named the Freshman of the Year, while twin sister Kristin Standhardinger was named the Setter of the Year.
Both players also earned All-Conference honors - Kristin on the first team and Kathrin on the second team - and were joined by senior middle hitter Michele Remlinger and sophomore libero Casey Howett, who also earned second-team All-Conference honors.
Kathrin Standhardinger is the third AASU player to earn PBC Freshman of the Year volleyball honors in school history. She currently ranks ninth in NCAA Division II in hitting percentage, tops among freshman in the nation, and leads the PBC in that category at .403.
Kristin Standhardinger, meanwhile, is the first PBC Setter of the Year honor as the award was created during the offseason by the league. She currently ranks second in the PBC and 48th nationally in assist per set (10.11) while also displaying her offensive prowess by hitting .276 and averaging 1.06 kills per set.
Remlinger is the second-leading hitter in the PBC after leading the league as a junior. She is currently hitting .366 and also ranks among the league's top blockers, averaging 0.93 per set. Howett was the second libero selected to the All-Conference squad and is having a stellar season, averaging 3.80 digs per set.
