Three Pirates Earn PBC Volleyball All-Academic Team Honors


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball squad placed three players on the Peach Belt Conference's Volleyball All-Academic Teams, released today by conference officials.

Senior outside hitter Amy Birkemeier, who carries a 3.75 grade point average in physical therapy, was named to the first team, along with sophomore outside hitter Torrie Bevolo, who holds a 3.81 GPA.

Sophomore libero Casey Howett, who carries a 3.67 GPA, was a second-team honoree. In all, three teams of 24 players were honored by the league. All three players were honored for the first time in their careers on the All-Academic Team.

The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
