Day Two Of AASU Action At The FGCU Invitational


FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team went 5-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles after the second day of action at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational on Saturday in Ft. Myers, Fla.

In singles play, Martina Beckmann defeated Florida Atlantic's Natalia Totevska, 6-4, 6-2; Gabriella Kovacs beat FAU's Dominique Wimmer, 6-4, 6-3; Tina Ronel defeated FAU's Natasha Basma, 6-3, 6-0 and Kathleen Henry notched a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win over FAU's Cassie Bergeron. Alida Muller-Wehlau won in a walkover over FAU's Justine Humair and Alisa Kagukina dropped a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision to FAU's Erika Mrazkova.

In doubles action, Beckmann and Muller-Wehlau won a walkover over Totevska and Humair and Henry and Ronel defeated the FAU duo of Basma and Bergeson, 8-3, for the Pirates' two doubles wins, while Kagukina and Kovacs dropped an 8-6 decision to Stetson's Miller and Gorham.

A scheduled doubles match between Beckmann/Muller-Wehlau and Stetson's Galbarini and de los Santos was pushed back to 8 a.m. on Sunday, where the final day of action in the FGCU Invitational will begin for the Lady Pirates.
