Four Singles Players Advance to Finals on Saturday


LEXINGTON, Ky. & WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team has four players in singles bracket final matches after play on Saturday at the UK Invitational and the C.L. Varner Memorial.

At the University of Kentucky, Sona Novakova is into the A Singles bracket final with a pair of wins on Saturday. Novakova defeated Caroline Lilley of the University of Kentucky, 6-1, 6-2, then beat Vanderbilt's Keilly Ulery, 6-4, 7-5. Novakova will take on Virginia's Lindsey Hardenbergh in the final on Sunday.

In the B Singles bracket, Alida Muller-Wehlau is into the final after defeating Michigan's Michelle Sulahian, 6-3, 6-2, and Virginia's Hana Tomljanovic, 6-3, 6-3. Muller-Wehlau will face off against Ohio State's Gabby Steele on Sunday in the final.

Martina Beckmann dropped a pair of singles matches on Saturday, losing to East Tennessee State's Diana Navrotska, 7-5, 6-3, and Illinois' Annie McCarthy, 6-2, 5-7, (10-4).

Meanwhile, in the C.L. Varner Memorial hosted by Rollins, teammates Alisa Kagukina and Kathleen Henry will meet in the B Singles bracket final after each picked up a win on Saturday. Kagukina defeated Hillsborough Community College's Nacheil Proctor, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2, while Henry defeated Rollins' Clark Tatje, 6-0, 6-2.

In the A Singles bracket semifinal, Tina Ronel dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Florida Southern's Senka Softic.

The doubles team of Henry and Ronel are also in the Doubles main draw final after a pair of wins. The duo defeated Florida Tech's Ramos and Dohner, 8-3, and Junker and Ragsdale of Rollins, 8-3. They will face O'Neill and Howlett from Hillsborough Community College on Sunday.

Play concludes on Sunday in both tournaments.
