No. 1 Lady Pirates Open Season With Two Wins


AMERICUS, Ga. - The top-ranked and two-time defending NCAA DII national champion Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team successfully opened up the 2010 season with a pair of 9-0 wins, defeating Georgia Southwestern and Stillman on Saturday in Americus, Ga.

The Lady Pirates (2-0, 1-0 PBC) gave up just one game to the Lady Hurricanes (0-1, 0-1 PBC) in notching its 63rd straight Peach Belt Conference regular season victory. Meanwhile, the Lady Pirates handed Stillman (0-1) its first loss of the season by not dropping a single game.

The doubles duo of Martina Beckmann and Alida Muller-Wehlau notched 8-0 wins in doubles in both matches, defeating the Georgia Southwestern duo of Cuellar and Grogan as well as the Stillman duo of Paul and Andry to pace the Lady Pirates.

AASU returns to action on Saturday, February 13, with a 1:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match at No. 10 Clayton State in Morrow, Ga.
