Novakova, Kovacs Still Alive At Baylor HEB Invitational

WACO, Texas - The doubles team of senior Gabriella Kovacs and sophomore Sona Novakova advanced to the doubles bracket final at the Baylor HEB Invitational in Waco, Texas, on Saturday afternoon.
Kovacs and Novakova defeated the Texas A&M duo of Cuthbertson and Potgeiter, 9-8, and the second-seeded duo of Rangel and Vogel of Ole Miss, 8-4, to advance to Sunday's final. There they will face the Texas A&M duo of Sheri Olivier and Nazari Urbina at 11:30 a.m.
In singles action, Novakova advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles main draw with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Jessica Jackson of Rice, but fell in her bid to reach the semifinals, losing 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to the second-seeded Csilla Borsanyi of Baylor - the 48th ranked singles player in DI in the ITA's preseason rankings.
Alida Muller-Wehlau also fell to Borsanyi in singles action on Saturday, losing 6-2, 6-3.
In consolation bracket action, senior Martina Beckmann picked up a pair of victories, defeating Soledad Podlipnik of Ole Miss, 6-3, 7-5, and Amy Joubert of North Texas, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the semifinals. Kovacs dropped her consolation singles match on Saturday, losing 6-4, 6-4 to Joubert.
Beckmann will face Julie Chao of Rice in her consolation bracket semifinal match at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
