Lady Pirates Earn Three Singles Bracket Wins On Sunday

LEXINGTON, Ky. & WINTER PARK, Fla. - Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis players earned three singles bracket championships on Sunday at the University of Kentucky Invitational and the C.L. Varner Memorial tournaments.
In Lexington, Ky., sophomore Sona Novakova defeated Virginia's Lindsey Hardenberg, 6-2, 6-1, to capture the A Singles bracket title.
Meanwhile, junior Alida Muller-Wehlau defeated Ohio State's Gabby Steele, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, to earn the B Singles bracket title.
It was an all-AASU showdown in the B Singles bracket of the C.L. Varner Memorial, hosted by Rollins College, on Sunday with sophomore Kathleen Henry picking up a 6-0, 6-3 win over teammate Alisa Kagukina.
In doubles action, the team of Henry and Tina Ronel fell to the Hillsborough Community College duo of O'Neill and Howlett, 8-5, in the doubles bracket final.
Next up for the Lady Pirates is the ITA Small College National Championships where Novakova will defend her ITA DII singles title beginning on Thursday in Mobile, Ala.
