Tina Ronel Named PBC Women's Tennis Player of the Week


SAVANNAH, Ga. - Sophomore Tina Ronel has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday, announced by league officials.

Ronel picked up wins in singles and doubles for the Lady Pirates’ 4-0 victory over DI Colorado State on Monday, extending AASU’s win streak over DI opponents to seven, dating back to 2000. The Gosier, Guadaloupe, native teamed with Kathleen Henry to defeat Greer Satherlie and Rui Xi, 8-6, in doubles. She then blanked Kirsten Stople, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.

This season, Ronel is a perfect 11-0 in singles and 10-1 in doubles. She is the fourth AASU player to earn the weekly women's tennis honor this season, joining Sona Novakova (March 10), Alida Muller-Wehlau (Feb. 24) and Gabriella Kovacs (Feb. 10).

The top-ranked Lady Pirates return to action on March 24 with a key Peach Belt Conference match against No. 9 Francis Marion at 2:00 p.m. in Florence, S.C.
