No. 1 Lady Pirates Blank USC Aiken, 9-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The top-ranked and defending DII national champion Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team blanked USC Aiken, 9-0, in Peach Belt Conference women's tennis action on Sunday afternoon at the AASU Tennis Complex.
The Lady Pirates (3-0, 2-0 PBC) stretched its current regular season PBC winning streak to 54 matches with the victory, a streak that dates back to the 2003 season. USC Aiken (1-2, 0-1 PBC) dropped its Peach Belt opener for the 2009 season.
AASU started off by sweeping all three doubles matches by 8-0 scores. The Lady Pirates then won three of the six singles matches without dropping a game - No. 1-ranked Sona Novakova defeated Stephanie Humphrey, 6-0, 6-0, at the top singles position. Freshman Kathleen Henry blanked Brittany Gore, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, while sophomore Tina Ronel defeated Courtney Hall, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
No. 18-ranked Gabriella Kovacs won in straight sets ofver Mathilde Grenet, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, while No. 38-ranked Martina Beckmann defeated Maria Soledad Angel, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles. No. 33-ranked Alisa Kagukina completed the perfect day by defeating Brittany Telford, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.
The Lady Pirates return to action on Friday, February 13, with another Peach Belt Conference match against Georgia Southwestern State at 2:00 p.m. in Americus, Ga.
