Bonet, Novakova Advance At ITA Small College Championships

MOBILE, Ala. - Armstrong Atlantic State freshmen Edualdo Bonet and Sona Novakova each picked up straight-set singles wins to advance to the DII bracket semifinals at the 2008 ITA National Small College Championships on Thursday morning at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.

Bonet, the second seed in the men's singles bracket, defeated Lukas Labitsch of Kutztown, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, he will face No. 3 seed Ales Svigelj of Barry University at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

On the women's side, the No. 4-seeded Novakova defeated Darina Berkova of Northwood, 6-1, 6-1, to earn a berth in the semifinals. There she will meet top seed Elwen Li of BYU-Hawaii at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.

The championship match in the DII singles brackets will take place Saturday morning, with the Super Bowl of Small College Tennis pitting the winner against the DIII, NAIA and Junior College champions later Saturday and on Sunday.
