No. 19 Pirates Blank Georgia Southwestern State, 4-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 19-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer squad held Georgia Southwestern State without a shot in picking up a 4-0 Peach Belt Conference victory on Saturday afternoon at AT&T Field in Savannah.

The Pirates (7-1-2, 3-0 PBC) - playing on back-to-back days for the second time this season - remained unbeaten in its last seven matches, while also remaining unscored upon by the Hurricanes (3-5, 0-2 PBC) in five overall meetings in school history. AASU picked up a 4-2 win over Tampa on Friday.

All eyes were on senior Kristin Burton early as her chase for the all-time PBC goal scoring lead marched on in the sixth minute as she beat GSW keeper Amber Bahri for her league-leading 14th goal of the season to give AASU an early 1-0 lead.

Burton would tie one Peach Belt record in the 23rd minute as her corner kick found the head of sophomore Erin O'Rourke for the second goal of the match. The assist is Burton's 186th career point, breaking the all-time points record of 185, previously held by Clayton State's Olaitan Yusuf.

The score would remain 2-0 into intermission, with the Pirates holding a 22-0 advantage in shots, including an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. GSW's Bahri made eight saves in the first half.

O'Rourke would add another goal in in the 59th minute, off of Þórdís Pétursdóttir's second assist of the match, to record her first career two-goal match as a Pirate and put AASU up by three. The scoring concluded in the 61st minute on junior Elizabeth Kerkhoff's first goal of the season - a header off of a cross by O'Rourke - as the Pirates finished the match with a 4-0 advantage.

All three AASU goalkeepers saw time in the match - senior Samantha held, freshman Meghan Mayville and freshman Tracey Mitchell - but none faced a shot. GSW's Bahri finished the match with nine saves.

Saturday was the first time AASU has held an opponent without a shot since the Pirates turned the trick against Georgia Southwestern on October 14, 2006, a 4-0 victory in Americus.

AASU returns to action on Wednesday, September 30, with a 6:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match at USC Aiken. Georgia Southwestern State is next in action also on Wednesday, September 30, hosting Columbus State at 4:00 p.m.
