No. 12 Pirates Fall, 2-0, To Florida Tech In GCSU Soccer Shootout

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 12-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2009 season at the hands of Florida Tech as the Panthers tallied two second-half goals in the GCSU Bobcat Classic in Milledgeville on Friday afternoon.
The Pirates (2-1) managed just seven shots in the match compared to 16 for the Panthers (1-1). Florida Tech's DeeDee Newland snapped a scoreless tie in the 54th minute with an unassisted goal, putting the Panthers up, 1-0. The Panthers then put the match away in the 83rd minute with an unassisted goal by Megan Stone.
AASU goalkeeper Tracey Mitchell made six saves in net for the Pirates, including one on a penalty kick, while Florida Tech goalkeeper Melissa Pyles collected the clean sheet by making three saves. The Panthers held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks and were whistled for 14 fouls, compated to eight for the Pirates.
Kristin Burton and Þórdís Pétursdóttir each had two of the Pirates' seven shots on the ngiht. Stone and Teresa Brantley each tallied four shots apiece for the Panthers.
AASU will try to get back on the winning track on Sunday when they face Catawba to wrap up the GCSU Bobcat Classic at Noon.
