Lady Pirates Finish 8th At Kiawah Island Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Armstrong Atlantic State women's golf team shot a final-round 331 on Sunday, finishing in eighth place at the 2010 Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, hosted by Tusculum College at the Cougar Point Golf Club.

In a field that features six top-10 ranked teams in the National Golf Coaches Association’s Top 25 rankings, Daytona State shot a 296 on Sunday to finish with a 602 total, besting No. 4 Rollins (608) by six strokes and No. 3-ranked Florida Southern (609) by seven.

First-round leader Belmont Abbey finished fourth (311), followed by No. 19 Saint Leo (633), No. 6 Barry (644) and No. 7 Newberry (659). The Lady Pirates were next with a 664 total, finishing ahead of No. 7 (NAIA) SCAD (668) and No. 10-ranked Lynn (669).

Freshman Kelly Pearce shot a second consecutive 79 for a two-day 158 total, tying for 17th place individually to lead the Lady Pirates. Junior Sarah Johns shot a second-day 81 and finished tied for 28th place with a 163 total. Junior Carrie George shot an 83 and finished tied for 62nd individually with a 176 total, while sophomore Kim Knox shot a 94 and finished tied for 65th with a 177 total. Sophomore Victoria Bennett rounded out the AASU scoring with an 88 on Sunday, also tying for 65th with a 177 total.

The Lady Pirates return to action on February 15-16 at the Newberry Invitational at Moss Creek Country Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
