Limestone Edges Lady Pirates, 82-76, In Season Opener

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Limestone College women's basketball team defeated Armstrong Atlantic State University 82-76 on Sunday night at the Timken Center. The Lady Saints open their season with a 1-0 record while the Lady Pirates stand at 0-1.

Tia Williams (Dacula, Ga.) led the Lady Saints with 18 points on 5-11 shooting. Whitney Todd (New Albany, Ind.) had 16 points and posted 7 rebounds. Maria Young (Wittier, NC) also chipped in 16 points. Lauren Pace (Suwanee, Ga.) had a game-high six assists.

AASU was led by Lauren Hall (Detroit, Mich.), who had a game-high 20 points on 8-10 shooting. Brooke Long (Richmond, Va.) contributed 13 points and Dartayvia Thomas (Augusta, Ga.) and Portia Jones (Savannah, Ga.) each had 10 points.

The game was very competitive from the start, and neither team held more than a 10 point advantage during the contest. Turnovers played a big part in the outcome as Limestone had 24 points off of 17 AASU turnovers. The Lady Pirates ended up with only 10 points off of Limestone's 17 turnovers.

The Lady Saints shot 40% from the field (25-63), including 10-25 from three-point range, while AASU shot 45% (29-65) from the field and 8-18 on three-pointers. Limestone had a big advantage on free throws as it made 22 of its 34 attempts, compared to only 10 of 20 for AASU. The Lady
Saints also had a 47-37 edge in rebounding.

The Lady Saints travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., for their next game on November 19 against Gardner-Webb (NCAA division I). Tip-off is at 7 p.m. AASU will travel to the Nova Southeastern Invitational to play Nova Southeastern University on November 20 at 7:30 p.m.
