Megan Barnwell Named PBC Pitcher of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State freshman Megan Barnwell has been named the Peach Belt Conference's softball Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week with the release of the league's weekly honors today.

Barnwell went 3-0 with an 0.44 ERA in three starts for the Pirates, who extended their win streak to 10 over the weekend. She started the week by limiting Tusculum to four hits and one run in five innings in a 7-1 win over the Pioneers on Wednesday, then held No. 22-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne to four hits and one unearned run in seven innings, striking out nine in a 2-1 win over the Bears.

The Brooklet, Ga., native finished the week with four shutout innings in a 6-2 win over Saint Leo on Sunday. In 16 innings on the week, Barnwell gave up just 12 hits while striking out 18. On the season, she ranks third in the PBC in ERA as well as opponents' batting average, as well as fifth in strikeouts.

Barnwell is the first AASU pitcher to earn consecutive PBC Pitcher of the Week honors since Katya Eronina collected the honor in three straight weeks from March 16-29, 2004.

Barnwell and the Pirates are in action on Tuesday, hosting No. 1-ranked North Georgia in a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at the AASU Softball Field.
