AASU Softball Splits On Opening Day


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad split a season-opening doubleheader on Saturday, knocking off Montreat (NC), 8-0, in five innings while dropping a 4-2 decision to Brenau.

The Pirates (1-1) blanked Montreat behind four innings of two-hit ball from Emily Headrick while Nicole Huddleston provided the support with a two-run home run in the first inning. Meagan Qualls also added a solo home run and Ashley Buckett collected a pair of RBIs.

In the second game, the Pirates led, 2-0, in the second inning on an RBI double by Erin Billingsley and an RBI single from Buckett, but Brenau plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth - highlighted by Ellen Black's three-run home run.

Shelby Duff took the loss for the Pirates in game two, giving up eight hits and four runs in 3 2/3 innings of work. 

The Pirates return to action on Saturday, February 13, hosting Florida Tech in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at the AASU Softball Field.
