Pirates Tied For Fourth At Kiawah Island Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team shot an opening-round 296, good for fourth place after the first round of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, hosted by USC Aiken, on Monday at the Cougar Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The Pirates are tied with Belmont Abbey (296) in fourth place, five strokes off the lead. The 13-team field is being paced by the top-ranked GCSU Bobcats, who fired a 291 on Monday. Indianapolis (292) is in second place, followed by North Alabama (293).
Host USC Aiken is tied for sixth after a 297 total with USC Beaufort. Coker was the only other team to break 300, placing eighth after the first round with a 298 total.
Sophomore Matt Motes leads the Pirates individually after an even-par 72 on Monday, tying him for fourth place. Freshman Jacob Tilton is tied for 15th individually after debuting as a Pirate with a one-over-par 73 score, whilesophomore Dustin Allen is tied for 24th individually after a two-over-par 74 total.
Junior David Patterson is tied for 31st after shooting a four-over-par 76 while freshman Tyler Erickson shot an 87 and is tied for 63rd individually.
Play concludes with a single round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
