Pirates Finish Fifth At Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team shot a final-round 311 on Tuesday, moving up one spot to finish fifth at the 2010 Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate, hosted by Catawba at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
Flagler College paced the 15-team field after firing a 295 on Tuesday, finishing the 36-hole tournament with a 580 score. North Greenville fired a second consecutive 300 to finish second with a 600 total, followed by Columbus State (608), Newberry (609) and Armstrong Atlantic (618).
Sophomore Matt Motes paced the Pirates on the second day with a three-over-par 75 score, finishing the tournament with a two-day 154 total, tying for 16th individually. Freshmen Jacob Tilton and Tyler Erickson each shot 79s on Tuesday and also finished the tournament with a two-day 154 total, tying for 16th place. Junior Ridge Purcell carded a second-round 78 and finished the tournament with a 157 total, tying for 28th place, while junior Aaron Elrod shot a 79 on Tuesday and also finished with a 157 total, tying for 28th.
The Pirates return to action on Feb. 22-23, hosting the AASU Pirate Invitational at Southbridge Golf Club in Savannah.
