Pirates Tied For 18th At AFLAC/Cougar Invitational


COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team sits in 18th place after the rain-soaked first round of the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational on Monday, with three teams still out on the course when play was halted due to darkness.

Three teams out of the field of 21 still had two players yet to complete the first round. Of the teams in the clubhouse, North Alabama (280) leads the way with a six-under-par score, followed by Barry (283) and both Nova Southeastern (286) and Lander (286). Barton College is one-over-par with two golfers still out on the course.

The Pirates, teeing off in a rainstorm with the first group of the day, carded a 14-over-par 298 score on Monday.

Freshman Tyler Erickson fired an even-par 71 and is currently tied for 16th individually, leading the Pirates. Sophomore Matthew Motes shot a three-over-par 74 and is tied for 50th individually, while junior Ridge Purcell shot a 76 and is tied for 76th.

Junior Aaron Elrod shot a six-over-par 77 and is tied for 86th, while freshman Jacob Tilton shot an 80 and is tied for 99th individually.

The final three groups will finish their first rounds at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, with the second and final round commencing at 8:00 a.m.
