Poor Shooting Dooms Pirates In 67-56 Loss At Clayton

MORROW, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team shot a season-low 27.9 percent from the floor in a 67-56 Peach Belt Conference loss to host Clayton State on Wednesday evening in Morrow, Ga.
The Pirates (5-13, 0-9 PBC) trailed by just five at halftime, 30-25, but made just two field goals in the first eight and a half minutes of the second half, allowing Clayton State (10-8, 3-5 PBC) to build a 45-32 lead with 11:36 remaining.
Freshman David Pruett made three straight three-point shots to cut the lead to seven, 48-41, with 8:37 left, but the Pirates could get no closer the rest of the way.
Pruett finished the day with a career-high 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, to lead all scorers for the Pirates. Patrick Shokpeka added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Clayton State got a balanced scoring effort on the night as 10 different players scored at least one field goal. Jaquas Dobbs led the way with 13 points.
AASU returns to action on Saturday, January 30, with a 1:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest against North Georgia at Alumni Arena.
