Pirates Clip St. Augustine's, 77-72, In Overtime

RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior guard Keron McKenzie hit 9-of-17 shots from the floor, including 6-of-11 from three-point range, en route to a career-high 27 points to give Armstrong Atlantic State a 77-72 overtime victory over host St. Augustine's on Tuesday evening in Raleigh.
The Pirates evened up their record at 1-1 while handing the Falcons a loss in their season opener at Emery Gymnasium in front of a crowd of 749.
McKenzie's three-pointer with 17 seconds left gave the Pirates a 68-66 lead near the end of regulation, but St. Augustine's player Hayward Fain registered a game-tying dunk with 1.5 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime period, senior Marquise Duvall scored the first four points, including a three-pointer with 3:03 left, to give AASU a lead it would never relinquish.
Senior Patrick Shokpeka added 12 points and nine rebounds, while junior Nigel Lee hit 5-of-7 shots from the floor en route to 12 points. Senior Gabriel Robinson played all 45 minutes for the Pirates and registered eight points, eight assists with just one turnover as well as three steals and a pair of blocked shots.
Chris Jordan led a trio of Falcons in double digits with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 6-of-10 three-pointers. Fain added 19 points and Kalvin Patterson chipped in 13 points.
AASU returns to Alumni Arena on Saturday, November 21, for its home opener at 4:00 p.m. against Brewton-Parker.
