Pirates' Hit Parade Continues, AASU Downs West Liberty State 17-1

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State baseball squad rapped out 22 hits in winning its sixth straight with Monday afternoon's 17-1 victory over visiting West Liberty State in 2009 Savannah Invitational action at Pirate Field.
AASU (12-8) had every player who got into the game, 13 in all, record at least one hit against the Hilltoppers (1-6), and six players had multi-hit games for the Pirates.
Junior Alex Wyche led the hit parade with a 4-for-4 day, while senior Juan Dorado went 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Josh Wilson, Kenny Cail, Drew Walker and Carlos Cardoza-Oquendo each had two hits apiece, while Drew Carnes dented the scoreboard in left field with a solo home run, coming in the second inning.
Blake Culberson (1-0) picked up his first win of the season for the Pirates, hurling six innings of six-hit, one-run ball, striking out five. Matt Coe took the loss for West Liberty State, giving up nine hits, seven runs and six walks in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
AASU had 32 baserunners on the day and limited the Hilltoppers to just eight singles. West Liberty State got its only run off an RBI single by Ryan Zelinski, who had a three-hit day to lead the Hilltoppers.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday, March 10, with a 2:00 p.m. Savannah Invitational contest against Wayne State.
