Chase, Smith Combine On 1-0 Shutout Of Findlay


SAVANNAH, Ga. - Senior Jeff Chase and junior Ryan Smith combined on a five-hit shutout, and Josh Wilson's RBI single in the sixth gave the Armstrong Atlantic State a 1-0 victory over visiting Findlay in 2009 Savannah Invitational action at Pirate Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Pirates (9-8) picked up their third straight win, while Findlay (0-6) remains winless in 2009 Savannah Invitational action so far this season.

Chase (2-3) hurled six shutout innings, giving up three hits and walking one while striking out six. Smith then came in to work three innings of two-hit ball, striking out three, to pick up his first save of the season.

In the sixth, Josh Wilson drove home Michael Price with the only run of the ballgame. Price also came up big by throwing out a runner at the plate to preserve the shutout.

Alex Wyche was the only AASU player to record two hits on the day, while David Cort had a pair of hits for Findlay.

The Pirates return to action on Friday, March 6, with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Kutztown in continuing 2009 Savannah Invitational action.
