Pirates Pick Up Ninth Straight Win, 10-0 Over Concord

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State baseball squad ran its current win streak to nine with a 10-0 victory over Concord in 2009 Savannah Invitational action at Pirate Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Pirates (15-8) jumped out in front of the Mountain Lions (7-4) by scoring nine runs in the first four innings, cruising to the victory.

AASU plated two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run triple by freshman Drew Walker. Another triple, this time by senior Juan Dorado, plated two more in the bottom of the second, then the relay throw hit Dorado and caromed into foul territory, allowing Dorado to score the third run of the inning.

Michael Price's RBI single pushed the lead to 6-0 in the third inning, then the Pirates plated three more runs in the fourth on a passed ball that scored Dorado, an RBI single by Kenny Cail and an RBI double by John Roberts.

Thomas Gray (4-1), meanwhile, held the Mountain Lions hitless until the fifth inning. In six innings pitched, Gray gave up just two hits and one walk while striking out eight to pick up the victory.

Allen Schurdell took the loss for Concord, giving up 12 hits and eight runs - seven earned - in three-plus innings pitched.

Dorado finished the game 4-for-5 with a pair of triples and four runs scored. Price had a 3-for-4 day, while Alex Wyche extended his hitting streak to nine games, where he has had at least two hits in each of the nine contests.
