Weather Affects Pirate Spring Sports This Weekend


SAVANNAH, Ga. - Anticipated inclement weather has affected the spring sports action for the Pirates this weekend.

The top-ranked AASU men's tennis team's scheduled season-opening match against Florida Southern on Friday has been postponed; the two teams will meet at a later date to be determined. AASU will now open up the season on Saturday, Feb. 6, with a Peach Belt Conference match at Georgia Southwestern.

The No. 28-ranked AASU baseball team's scheduled season-opening game against Salem International on Friday has been moved to Saturday. The Pirates will now take on Salem International in a doubleheader at 11:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, the AASU softball squad's season-opening tournament at Georgia Southwestern State, the 2010 GSW Invitational, has been cancelled due to poor field conditions in Americus, Ga. The Pirates instead will open up the 2010 season with a pair of contests on Saturday, February 6, at the AASU Softball Field. AASU will host Montreat (NC) at 10:00 a.m. and Brenau at 2:00 p.m.
